Looking forward to tonight’s semi

Wednesday 5th September 2012

Tonight see’s Sam step on to the track for the second time in these Paralympic games in the attempt to make the 200m final on Thursday night. After a tough 100m semi on Friday Sam is looking to build on his exceptional progress over the last 6 months and make the 200m final.

Sam has been drawn in the 1st heat in the 7th lane just outside the 100m Silver medallist from South Africa, Teboho Mokgalagadi. Fellow Brit and 100m finalist Jordan Howe has been drawn in 2nd heat on the inside of the 100m Gold medallist Iurii Tsaruk from Ukraine.

Sam’s coach Joe McDonnell had this to say.

“Unlike the 100m the 200m allows an inexperienced sprinter like Sam to make an error and still have opportunity qualify, having said that we are still following a strict race plan.

Being in an outside lane (7) will hopefully allow Sam to concentrate on his own race and in Sams words, “do what needs to be done”. He has to run hard from the start and maintain his relaxation all the way through to the line.

I have the utmost belief that Sam will leave everything on the track to qualify.”
