Sam to return to the Olympic Park to celebrate Paralympic anniversary

Tuesday 27th August 2013

As we approach the winter period of the 2013-2014 season, it’s absolutely impossible to ignore the many things that will be taking place during September to mark the one-year anniversary of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, lauded as the greatest spectacle for disability sport that has ever been seen.

To keep the images, thoughts and feelings that surrounded that spectacle fresh in the minds of the British public, there are two events in particular that Sam will be attending.

The first will be National Paralympic Day, hosted by ParalympicsGB at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on September 7th from midday onwards. Entrance to the Park will be without charge and visitors will be able to meet Sam, as well as other Paralympians and try Paralympic sports. There are also matches of boccia, table tennis, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball in the Copper Box, which will be all ParalympicsGB against a host of nations.

The second and last event, “HoopsAid”, will also take place at the Copper Box the following week on September 15th, also from midday onwards. This is a charity basketball event, where a host of celebrities, famous faces (Sam included), as well as current and former players from the BBL and NBA will shoot some hoops, alongside live music performances, a slam dunk contest and the opportunity to buy donated sports equipment. All money raised at the event will go towards sports and coaching opportunities for the disabled and able-bodied in communities up and down the country.

Tickets to HoopsAid are available at

Please come down to either or indeed both of these events, they promise to be great fun and a fantastic way to not only relive memories of last year but to also contribute to the sporting future of the years to come.
